The Proposed Setup

SMN PARTY

PLD/NIN WHM RDM DD 1 – MUST SUB NINJA DD 2 – MUST SUB NINJA BLM
General Notes On Proto-Ultima
This limbus is a 60 minute battle against a very frustrating and annoying monster.
He changes behaviour for every 20%HP he loses, becoming progressively worse.
The setup above is based upon lots of experience of fighting this thing, and it’s a setup that has been proven to work consistently on him.
Positioning of People (Key key key)
Proto Ultima is positioned in a large square area with columns. He has a draw in ability which is very annoying, and quite a lot of his attacks are Cone/AoE.
The Paladins must position Ultima in the far NW corner of the room keeping Ultima facing the NW corner, that way only the tanks can be hit with his cone attacks.
The few DD’s stand behind it whilst not pulling hate. If you pull hate of course Ultima will turn around and be in full glaring view of the mages.
Whilst keeping him positioned there, EVERY MAGE (SMN/WHM/BLM/BLU/RDM) must keep a distance of 20+ away from Ultima. This is critical because Ultimas biggest normal attack, an attack called “Armour Buster” is a 20 distance light attack and it will kill you or send you into red HP.
Now I also appreciate SMN’s need to be less than 15 distance to bloodpact attack, therefore do this and run out of range once done. You will just be unlucky to be hit by this at this time.
The White mages will have a little trouble with regards to curing distance but so long as Stoneskin is up, an AoE will most likely be survivable.
The General Strategy
The principal damage in this battle is done by the summoners. The Summoners will use Leviathon’s Spinning Dive, or Garuda's Predator Claws on Ultima as often as possible.
The DD’s will work together to create numerous light skillchains during the battle which the sole BLM will nuke on.
The three paladins will share hate between them, keeping Ultima facing away from the group at all times. Three Paladins with Ninja sub should ensure that a large majority of Ultimas attacks are absorbed by utsusemi, and any AoE light attacks are minimised.
It is IMPRERATIVE in this battle that at no point is hate shifted from the Paladins. So the DD’s need to be really careful not to steal hate. Remember that Ultima will be ultimately downed via the summoners, which will attract no hate issues.
As stated at the beginning of the strategy, Ultima will change behaviour every 20%, therefore just prior to a new phase starting, a “rest period” may be called. Simply no TP is fed to him, the tanks will blink tank him whilst disengaged whilst the mages rest up. This will typically happen at 41%, 21% or just after Ultima uses Armour buster and will give the party time to recover without shifting hate.
The 20% Phase
Option 1: Kraken Club Strategy
We change the party formation so that the KC DRK has COR and 2 BRD's buffs. As soon as Proto Ultima does his disspation move at 19% (or if the BLM manages to stun it), that is the que for the BRD's to soul voice up the DRK. When Citadel buster is counting down, thats when the DRK must attack, and EVERYONE - GET OUT OUT OF THERE! The DRK may not be able to finish it off.
Option 2: Summoner Strategy
The final 20% phase is the hardest part about limbus. It is a chaotic, pandemonium infested nightmare and is the reason why the alliance is setup the way it is.
The alliance will do a full rest at 21%HP prior to this phase starting. Once the order has been given to start a number of things must occur:
The RDM must stick every buff that stacks on this thing. Dia III/Shock/Drown/Frost/Paralyze/Slow you name it. These play a big role in bringing him to death sooner rather than later. As they wear off, recast them.
The SMN’s must absolutely belt this thing with Spinning Dive’s / Predator Claws as often as possible and just have faith. If Ultima has his physical shield up, then use Diabolos’s magic blood pact.
CITADEL BUSTER
Only whilst during his 20% phase, will Ultima use this Citadel Buster move. He will simply target the person with hate and do a 30 second countdown on him, he wont attack and will just draw this target in if he/she tried running away.
A couple of people will be spamming across /party chat who this target is. IF YOU ARE THE TARGET – DON’T RUN!! Do as much damage as possible before you die – you should have Goddess Hymnus on you for quick and easy reraise.
If you are NOT the target, simply run away up the ramp where we entered the room. Stay there till the target he been Busted, then run back in to resume fighting.
Now I know I said you will probably die, but if the target is one of the paladins in the main tank party, there is a good chance they will survive it. If they survive, the battle will not be half as bad as it could be.
Specific Job Roles
White Mages
There will be a big burden on you in this battle – your refreshers will play a big role here, and there will be a lot of status ailments to remove. In addition Ultima does dispel, so buffs may need recasting quite a lot through the battle.
Bards
Tank Party Bard – The tank party bard will be singing “Light Carol” and “Mages Ballad” to the tanks all the way upto the final 20% phase. During the final 20% phase sing “Light Carol” and Goddess Hymnus”.
Don’t ignore the back line mages – double Ballad is essential!
SMN Party Bard – Double Ballad to the SMNs up until the final 20% phase. During the final 20% phase sing Ballad + Hymnus.
Corsair
There will be only one Corsair in the tank party. This Corsair must keep Magus Roll on the tanks at all time. There will be a BLU in the party to maximise the effectiveness of Magus Roll.
Evokers roll for the Blue Mage and the White Mage. Refresh is massive on the White Mage in the battle.
Blue Mage
The key role for the BLU here is both physical and magic damage to Ultima. Diamondhide on the tanks too – for extra protection.
Black Mage
The plan is to take one BLM on the proto run. This BLM will play a very big role in this fight.
Firstly Ultima will use a move called Dissipation at 79% - 59% - 39% - 19% and he will use it the absolute millisecond his HP hits those four percentages. This Black Mage must stun this move the second it hits this HP( and ultimately have windower with the HP % plugin).
This move is incredibly annoying which wipes everyones buffs including reraise and terrorises everyone. A fast BLM can stun this and stop it from ever being a problem.
Finally
Try to enjoy this limbus. There will probably be a few deaths, sometimes multiple deaths per person so you need to come to this limbus prepared for a few raises.
